Well friends, thank you for all of your comments. It is affirming to know that I am not crazy. My dear friend Joanie B has been helping me get the room back into shape. A little help and it's amazing how differently you can feel about it.
I would like to work some kind of theme into it but Izy has a very specific vision so I am trying to very carefully work with that. I will post the pics when it's finished. Thank you so much Joanie!!!

You can try Goo-be-gone on the paint in the carpet. It has worked for me. I also know there is a product to take paint off of finished wood (but I don't remember the name). You might ask advice at Lowes or a hardward store in your area.
I'm amazed at your ability to laugh it off—oh to be like you . . . :)
